The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) began as a charter school in 1999 with the primary goal of inspiring a love of learning while delivering the very best education to students. It was founded by educators and parents with the dream of creating a school in Leon County that combined industry best practices and learning-by-doing.

We take pride in offering an innovative curriculum, dedicated teachers, effective leadership, involved parents, engaged students, sound financial management, and beautiful campuses. This has resulted in top-ranked programs where student achievement is flourishing.

What is a charter school?

This is a public school of choice, which has increased flexibility with its curriculum and learning model. A “charter” establishes the academic program and performance metrics for the school.

The premise is that student learning is at the core of the school mission – not test grades and arbitrary requirements.

Today, our award winning program offers two tuition-free schools in Tallahassee. Both SAS on Thomasville Road and SAS at The Centre serve kindergarten through eighth grade students.
